What is a UTM in a campaign
The following is found in the first step of an email campaign. It is a UTM builder. By clicking on the “i” icon, it explains which parameters the CP (Campaign Platform) uses to build the UTM for the campaign we are about to create.
The only thing the client needs to add is the campaign name. The other parameters are default, as listed below, and this is how they will be tracked in Google Analytics. The only thing that can be changed is the source:
For example, instead of “inbox,” it can be “newsletter” (typically requested by those coming from Mailchimp). They should start their UTM with "newsletter.example_abandoned_cart."
This goes into the field above.
If this is added in step 1 of email creation within a dynamic email scenario, the UTMs will also apply to the products in the dynamic scenario.
Therefore, we can recommend this in cases of automation when the client wants to change the utm_source.
Apart from “inbox” and “newsletter,” they can generally set any other value they want in the source field.
This is also the only way they can use the terms “inbox” and “newsletter” in the UTM, followed by a period (as shown above, without the quotation marks).
Since this is a builder, we don’t enter the entire UTM in this field. It won’t allow it, and instead, it will display the following message: "The above creates a UTM for the entire campaign."
If they want different UTMs for each element, it is possible, although we do not recommend it because it could cause confusion in their analytics.
